What is Periodontics ?

Periodontics is a branch of dentistry which treats the diseases that destroy the tissue (the periodontal membrane) which maintains the teeth in position.

The factors causing the occurrence of the periodontal disease are the bacterial injuries and tarter generated by poor dental hygiene, nicotine and/or untreated decays. There are also other factors that can cause the occurrence of this disease, such as diabetes, puberty, pregnancy, stress. At the beginning, this disease is not painful, and this is why it is very important to be diagnosed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, most patients see the dentist when the symptoms are already obvious.

Depending on the degree of severity, the periodontal disease can be classified based on five stages, starting from gingivitis, the lightest form and ending with the refractory type disease.

To treat this disease surgical treatments as well as non-invasive treatments are used.

What are the interventions involving flap lobes?

The interventions involving a flap lobe represent the dental procedures that are used in cases of an advance periodontal disease and they involve surgical separation of the gum from the teeth and the neighbouring bone, to perfectly clean the bone and remove the granuloma.

What is the gum curettage ?

The gum curettage is a surgical procedure by means of which the gum bags are cleaned (curetted) of granuloma, after scaling.

What is a gingival graft ?

The gingival graft is a procedure designed to cover the tooth roots that have been discovered as a consequence of the withdrawal of the gum tissue. This intervention protects the root against decay, reducing at the same time both the risk of bone mass loss and the sensitivity.

What is gingival reshaping?

By gingival reshaping the gum is surgically reshaped both for functional and aesthetic purposes.
